We have a big news!✨ Scrap Queen @upcycle_uk is awarded one of prestigious @weareinnovateuk grants, Creative Catalyst 2024. 🎖️👏 Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, is creating a better future by inspiring, involving, and investing in businesses developing life-changing innovations. ⚡️ Our project is under UKRI Sustainable Fashion Fund to accelerate to leading the innovation and businesses in circular fashion and textile in the UK. 🌏💜♻️ We will utilise this opportunity to complete development of Scrap Queen’s platform to be ready for launching in the early next year, and incorporate research & development in collaboration with UK universities, LJMU @ljmu and LCF @lcflondon_ We have exciting upcycling & circular fashion panel events with special guests from sustainable fashion experts and peer SMEs in circular fashion and textile sector to exchange knowledge & networking. This number is from 2016 statistics. (Eurostat) The fashion and textile industry has kept increasing its revenue also carbon footprint, so the number of the textile waste possibly increased too. Some people may be optimistic with this matter, thinking “there are new technologies to recycle fabrics, also products made from recycled materials”. However, the reality is less than 10% of those textile waste are recycled and majority of them are either incinerated in CO2 intensive process or sent to landfill. Even recycling process needs additional energy and generates carbon footprint. The most effective in cost and result wise is to change our habit of shopping and dealing with unwanted textiles.
